Selecting your first dance song!

Updated: Nov 19, 2020

Your first dance is the final formality of the wedding day.

Just like the other individual elements couples want to get it right, especially their song choice.

We are experienced in making the moment perfect.

But where do you start with choosing your first dance song?

For many people, the song choice is obvious.

We advise you to discuss between you both about shared emotional connections in music and these are not just limited to good times on the dance floor.

There might be songs on an album you listened to a lot when you were getting to know each other or songs which played on the radio or streaming service when you first became a couple.

Some artists we play have certain life moments in mind when they write albums. Ed Sheeran always has at least 2 suitable wedding songs on his Albums he has released and he is always a good starting point.

Often a bride will compile a list of suggestions into a playlist and try them out by listening to them over and over for suitability.

Spotify published a list of the most popular wedding first dance songs according to playlists curated on their service. Here is the Top 5:

1. Christina Perri A Thousand Years

2. Lonestar Amazed

3. John Legend All Of Me

4. Queen You're My Best Friend

5. Adele Make You Feel My Love

Obviously these are only the top 5 and we are not saying to just pick these but your First Dance Track is as mentioned before your Final Formality to make. Oh and if your wondering where Ed Sheeran featured? Number 6 and number 9 so he made the Top 10!

If you head over to our Facebook Page there is a post on there of which we made a Top 10 of what we have ACTUALLY played for our past clients to give you an idea of what we can do for you.

First dance selections are also helpful to us as Event DJs as we often get a track selected, we have not played before and one that does stick out as I’m writing this is Bradley Cooper & Lady Gaga Shallow.

A lovely soft track which is modern but not too upbeat, but it also has meaning to it.

We also like playing classics such as Al Green Let’s Stay Together (released in 1972)

Or we have also had Endless Love by Lionel Ritchie & Diana Ross (released in 1981)

There is also the option of having music from the films like Elton John Can You Feel The Love Tonight from Lion King or there is also You’ve Got A Friend In Me from Toy Story by Randy Newman. These are just two examples of what you can pick for your special First Dance.

A first dance is one of those moments in life you only get one chance to get right.

Whichever song you pick and however you choose to dance once it’s over the party can start! This is where we play your chosen tracks plus your guest requests too! We hope you have enjoyed reading this and if it's given you inspiration please let us know in the comments section.
